Best beach for body surfing/swimming in Oaxaca or S. Mexico in the summer?
Im going to mexico in a week, Oaxaca probably, and I want to find the best hang out beach in Southern Mexico in July. Any thoughts?
Puerto Escondido
This place is famous for its monster wave – it’s called the Mexican Pipeline, but the waves are pretty mild in the summer, so you should have a fun time body surfing or boogie boarding if you’re going now.
If Playa Zicatela’s waters are too rough for you, there are a couple of other beaches just to the north (walking distance) that are more sheltered and easier to manage – Playa Principal and Playa Carrizalillo.
In terms of hanging out, this place is a lot of fun since it attracts a lot of foreign surfers and surf fans (Europeans, Japanese, South Americans…) in addition to the local surfers. It doesn’t have the high-end resort-style that you’ll find in Huatulco, but that’s why I like it. There are night clubs and there’s a cool local culture. It’s very low key and a great place to chill out. If you want to get away from it all, meet fun young people and not spend a whole lot of money, Playa Escondido is for you.
